About – What is Kink Knowledgeable?
Background
The Kink Knowledgeable Program came out of the publication of “Becoming a Kink Aware Therapist”. The co-authors, Caroline Shahbaz and Peter Chirinos, recognize a vacuum in the therapeutic community for professional clinical training in atypical sexualities. To address this gap and misinformation, they decided to launch the first comprehensive online academy which introduces best clinical practices in an e-Learning platform. This online academy provides continuing professional education and establishes a growing community for clinicians interested in atypical sexual education.
Aims
The goal of Kink Knowledgeable is to:
- Help professionals deepen their understanding of this particular sub culture and develop kink knowledgeable competency.
- Initially offer online education, mentorship and clinical supervision to mental health professionals. Over time, Kink Knowledgeable aims to expand its services to meet the needs of medical and legal professionals.
- Provide a platform for additional classes by faculty who are internationally renowned thought leaders in the field of sexuality, public policy, on-line therapy (distance counseling) and the intersections between research, clinical practice, medicine and other related fields.
- Have the Kink Knowledgeable Program accredited for professionals seeking continuing education units (CEUs) from nationally and internationally recognized mental health and social work professional organizations and associations.
